Kinematically Aligned Total Knee Arthroplasty for Valgus Osteoarthritis of More than 10°?<br/><i>Is It Still a “Challenging Surgery”</i>?

چکیده

Mechanically aligned total knee arthroplasty (TKA) for valgus is considered a “challenging surgery.” Recently, the kinematic alignment (KA) method has gained attention. This study aimed to present objective clinical data, such as intraoperative balance assessment and radiographic evaluation of postoperative lower extremity after TKA using KA deformity. Twenty-one knees (mean age, 74 years; 2 males, 19 females) with severe deformity (hip-knee-ankle-angle ≥ 10°) performed at our department in past 3 years were included this study. Intraoperative gap measurements performed. A arc range motion was achieved up 98% preoperative values weeks postoperatively. stable throughout entire motion. In addition, there no statistically significant differences either or each flexion angle. “simple surgery” rather than because additional soft tissue procedures are not required, operative time short, very stable, good achieved. procedure may relieve surgeons stress deformities.

Kinematically versus mechanically aligned total knee arthroplasty.

The purpose of this study was to compare 2 alignment methods for total knee arthroplasty (TKA): kinematic alignment with the use of patient-specific guides and mechanical alignment with conventional instruments. A randomized, controlled trial of 41 kinematically aligned and 41 mechanically aligned patients was conducted with the patient, radiographic evaluator, and clinical evaluator blinded to...

Different References for Valgus Cut Angle in Total Knee Arthroplasty

Background: The valgus cut angle (VCA) of the distal femur in Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA) is measured preoperativelyon three-joint alignment radiographs. The anatomical axis of the femur can be described as the anatomical axis of thefull length of the femur or as the anatomical axis of the distal half of the femur, which may result in different anglesin some cases. During TKA, the anatomical ...

Does a kinematically aligned total knee arthroplasty restore function without failure regardless of alignment category?

BACKGROUND Kinematically aligned TKA restores function by aligning the femoral and tibial components to the normal or prearthritic joint lines of the knee. However, aligning the components to the joint lines of the normal knee also aligns the tibial component in varus, creating concern that varus alignment might result in poor function and early catastrophic failure. QUESTIONS/PURPOSES We the...
